The first TBW Children’s Bird Walk Noticeboard was launched at the Tamworth Regional Playground by Denise Kane in 2016. Five other Children’s Bird Walks have since been established in the Tamworth LGA. Tamworth Regional Council has generously supported TBW by awarding our group several community grants to help fund this project.
The aim of the noticeboards is to introduce children to the fun of exploring our green spaces and discovering our local native birds. Each Children’s Bird Walk Noticeboard is unique. One side displays a Children’s Walk “mud map” and 10 photos of local native bird species likely to be found at that location. The photos are accompanied by a bird “tick list” so children can record what they find. The other side of the noticeboards display our Regional Bird Route Map.
